Can you please make a little search on the site BEFORE posting.
There is a topic named "How to install Oracle 9i on Linux" started 3 hours before yours.
Did you have a look to it?

Michel

Windows has services. *NIX does NOT have services.
Your approach is flawed. Only start what you want to run.
NOTHING is started on *NIX "by default".

I well understand how UNIX works.
It is YOUR system & YOU can add or delete any files you want.

Here is a simple exercise for you.
Installed your flavor of *nix taking all the defaults.
After the installation is complete, log on as root & run "top".
You'll see the system is 99% idle & will stay that way even though a decent number of daemons are active on the system.
If a daemon is NEVER asked to service any request, it consumes almost ZERO resources.
Eliminating a few of these daemons will not buy you anything that you can actually measure & may break needed OS capability.

IMO, you seem to be trying to solve a problem that exists only between your ears.

Sir,

I m new and beginer in this OS.
Sir if u expert in it then please help me.
I want to stop all deamons that are not necessary for the function of the server which is only Database Server.

I have come to know many of packages open ports on the system and provide path for hackers like rssh......
Why not I should stop all deamons....
Indeed u r right thay did not use resources of the server but may be responsible for security holes .......

For security put the database server behind a firewall & then you don't have to worry about any "path for hackers like rssh".
Or use ipchains to secure the ports on the DB server.
Neither of these has anything to do with the plethora of deamons which run on *nix.
