Hi, I am Java Programmer. I want to get certified in Oracle. Oracle is new to me. I searched previous threads in this forum. But i still have some queries. Anyone please clarify and correct me if I am wrong.
1. I will take the Introduction to Oracle9i:SQL(1Z0-007) exam first via Internet and then take Oracle9i Database: Fundamentals I(1Z0-031). Am i right about this.

2. Which book should i refer or which book covers the certification objective completely.
OCA Oracle9i Associate DBA Certification Exam Guide Jason S. Couchman, Sudheer N. Marisetti or
OCA/OCP: Oracle9i DBA SQL Study Guide Chip Dawes, Biju Thomas & OCA/OCP: Oracle9i DBA Fundamentals I Study Guide Biju Thomas, Bob Bryla

3. How much time will it take to complete the 1st and 2nd exam provided I am new to Oracle and will dedicate 20 hours/week for the study?

4. Is there any other materials I should refer.

Thanks in advance for your replies.

1. Why 9i? Why not 10g?
2. Upto you. The books you actually need are Oracle Documentation (free). All other books gives a summarized (a better readable for beginners) content.
3. Varies. No standard rule
4. Refer Oracle documentation. Download and install Oracle XE. Play with it.

Thanks mahesh. Thanks for the XE suggestion. I have decided to take 9i because since i am new to oracle, i want to take easier exam. moreover i am Java programmer. So i want to know the basics only.
Also please clarify this
1) i read that 1Z0-007 can be written via Internet. Does that mean that this exam can be taken at home?
2) Is there any time limit, within which i should take the second exam? Say if i finish the 1Z0-007 exam now and take 1Z0-031 after an year, will i get certified?

>> i want to take easier exam.
9i certifications are outdated. You may want to get certified in latest release.
Why would someone take a certification that has no value?
And who said 9i is easy and 10g is hard?
>> Does that mean that this exam can be taken at home
Nope. usually you need to go a prometric center.

Rules change.
I would rather check with a oracle website
or a local Oracle education center.

mahesh thanks for your replies. My friend who is preparing for 9i OCA told me that getting certified in 9i is easier than 10g.
Is 9i and 10g are of same difficulty level?

Both ( 10g, 9i) is not easy or not difficult it depand on person who perparing for exam.

you have to give 4 paper for oracle 9i.
but in 10g. you have to give only 2 paper.

Hi,
Is there any possibility so that i can go for 10g coz i completed my first paper in 9i.
Yes you can go. without any problem.
because in 10g two exam is requried to clear.
1.Oracle 10g Administration Workshop I
2.Oracle 10g Administration Workshop II

For pl/sql you can also continue in Oracle 9i. after complete plsql exam you will get Oracle Certificate ( Oracle plsql developer).
because above Certification required only two paper.
1.introduction to sql (izo-007) or introduction to sql and plsql(izo-101)
2. program with plsql ( izo-147)
