rleishman gave me the idea here.
Would it be possible to warn a member, just before his message gets submitted, that in the mean time another message has been posted to the thread?
Thanks Ross Leishman for the great idea!

Interesting idea! Having multiple replies is not necessarily bad either. I'm not entirely sure that it would be worth the trouble. Any other opinions?

I doubt if it would be worth it, since you only get the warning once you're finished creating your reply.
If I am that far, I would be stubborn enough to post it too Wink

Often, a reply has a direct relation to the previous post in the thread. If someone else has replied in the mean time your post can loose its meaning.

Oh well, in the end it would be nothing more than a 'nice to have' feature...

I'd probably post as well. The annoying situation is when someone writes exactly what you wrote (or better) but just gets in before you. When you re-read the entire post top down, it's a bit of a "Dur,Fred".

Perhaps something more subtle: When you hit the reply button, a visible note is attached to the thread with the respondents handle and the current time. The note could be removed at the next post, or removed manually by the user who triggered it.

eg. rleishman began a reply on Fri, 24 February 2006 20:25

I don't think that it is worth the effort. I would probably still post my reply, but may edit it down or delete it ( a moderator privilege that perhaps could be extended to a posters' own posts). But the reply always goes to the end of the list. [Dumb comment: Can we sort a thread by sub-thread, a la "other forums(?)".] Okay, "tree view".

David

Upd: Correct dumb comment.
