Hi,
I recently installed DB10g Rel2 on my computer laptop in VMware workstation under winxp pro. sp2
and installed developer 10g on laptop .
1- The VMware workstation name is vm.
2- The laptop name is laptop

3- When i start VMware workstation and open the SQL Plus is working.
4- When i start the developer and connect to batabase sometimes it gives me ORA-12545 and ORA- 12535.
ORA-12545 :connect failed becouse target host or object does not exist.
ORA-12535 :TNS :operation timed out.

the hostname is (HOST = vm) in all tnsname.ora in DB10g in vmware workstation and Dev10g in laptop.
Could anybody tell my how to connect Dev10g with DB10g in vmware workstation?
Thanks

dear kolen,

i am also facing similiar issue now.
i have installed ora 11gr1 in oracle linux guest under vmware and
ora dev suite 10g in windows vista host machine.

i am able to ping my 11g db server in linux, but while trying tnsping to the same i am getting "TNS-12535: TNS:operation timed out" error.

i even tried switching off the vista firewall. but still couldnt able to connect to it.

can you please explain how did you resolved this issue ?

regards
Janny

12535, 00000, "TNS:operation timed out"
// *Cause: The requested operation could not be completed within the time out
// period.
// *Action: Look at the documentation on the secondary errors for possible
// remedy. See SQLNET.LOG to find secondary error if not provided explicitly.
// Turn on tracing to gather more information.

That can have a lot of reasons, most of the time the more detailed reason is described in an additional error message.

Post the ENTIRE session where you tried the ping and tnsping. And have a look at the SQLNET.LOG which should have been created in the directory you are in.

dear Thomas,

Thanks a lot for your response.
I actually fixed this issue.

The issue was due to the firewall in my linux server.
Now its connecting fine.

thanks and regards
Janny
