Hi All,

I ve installed sql* plus Release 9.0.1.0.1 on XP Operating system.
I tried entering both scott/tiger and system/manager but even then it is asking for Host string.
It throws up an error message which says the following

"ORA-12560 TNS Protocol adapter error"

Please let me know how to go about it.

Regards,
Chandrika

Chandrika,

Is your Oracle sevice is up and running ?

Go to Administrative tools and Services then check the name of the service ( SIDservice ).

I think Oracle service on ur machine is not up n running.

Check if its stopped, right click on it and start the service and change it to automatic.
Then try to login.

regards,
tarun
