I am facing an Ora-12514 TNS Listener could not resolve the service name given in connect descriptor.

I am trying to connect the database in the remote site. The IP and port of the database are mapped to a local ip in my LAN. When I TNS ping this local ip, it succeeds. But my net8 assistant check to connect the database results in ORA-12514..
Help me in this issue

I have created the tnsnames.ora using net8 configration assistant.

Thanks in advance

are you getting any
ORA-01041: internal error. hostdef extension doesn't exist
when trying to connect?
sql*net will not do the host name resolution.
Pls post your listener.ora and tnsnames.ora.
carefully look into your listener.ora , even any unwanted space around = will create an error!~

Hi,

I think i have the solution to your problem.

When you closely look into your tnsnames.ora then there might me two entries for your database that is for two listeners.

Check the services on each of the two listeners by (listener services listener-name) and remove the entry from the tnsnames.ora on which that service is not present.
