Hi
I have an oracle 8.1.7 server on windows 2000 server. I created a database and it works fine. I tried to create another database on the same machine and I keep getting ORA-12560. I have tried the listener.ora file. I have stopped and started the listener. I am relatively new to oracle. Any suggestions on how can get rid of this error.

1. add the second database to listener.
2. reload the listener.
3. restart the listener.
4. add entries in your tnsnames.ora, so that you can
   access the both the databases  like
   connect user1 / password@database1
   connect userx / pass@database2

I was running windows 2000K server and terminal serving to the box, I got the exact error you described. I cancelled the database creation after 3 or so attempts. I then went to the Box itself and did the exact same operation. It worked perfectly. This was a very clean test box and I was logged in as administrator in both cases. If your using terminal server you may wish to stop and try creating the database directly from the server console instead.

Check your sqlnet.ora for this parameter
"names.preferred_servers" which may point to any where else.

Hi all,

I use oracle 9i .I have a problem when I creating database. I installed 9i but when I tring to create database I see this error messages. 12560 tns adaptor error. I think my listener doesnt work properly.When I examine trac ,there was some socket error.as a result I couldnt create database.I tried xp,2000 and 2003. but didnt.
