Hi at all

I have a question about the oracle server Standard Edition for you.

I want to install oracle database server on my pc and I know that the express edition is the free version. But the express edition of oracle database server do not support windows 64bit operating system.

So, I have downloaded the standard edition version 11g R2 because from the official documentation i have read that it work in windows 64 bit, and so I have installed it on my pc.

But what I want to ask to you is if is standard edition a free version of oracle database?

Why could I to download the the standard edition version and install it without any problem?

Can I to work with standard edition?

regards.

Oracle trust you and think you are decent and you will not use it for commercial purpose.
Of course, the first time you will call them because of a bug or problem they will check.

The other thing is that you can only download the X.X.X.1 versions from the open website. Which are released somewhat "early and unfinished" so that people can begin testing with them.

Usually they still have some nasty bugs that make them quite risky to run any production database with. To download the updates to "production ready" .2, .3 etc... versions you have to have a support identifier to log into the Oracle Support website, hence you need to buy a license.

The base release tends to be fairly buggy when used in anger, so you can only download patches and updates once you've bought a licence Very Happy

express edition of oracle database server do not support windows 64bit operating system.

Although OTN download page suggests so (saying "Does not work in Windows x64"), that's not entirely true. I have installed (and used) 11g Express Edition on MS Windows 7 Enterprise Edition 64-bit. No problem at all (which doesn't mean that someone else is as lucky as I am).
