in the documents , about the v$log , the following :


V$LOG
 
V$LOG displays log file information from the control file.
 
STATUS VARCHAR2(16) Log status: 
 
        ................
 
      ACTIVE - Log is active but is not the current log. It is needed for crash recovery. It may be in use for block recovery. It may or may not be archived.
 
        ............... 
 



above , i have some confuse about this statement " It may or may not be archived". Can U tell me ,in this statement "when the log can be archived ,when it can't be archived ."

It is archived (assuming you are in archived log mode) as soon as the archiver is started and has completed archiving the previous logs.
