I am a newbie to Oracle. When I try to start the database, I get an ORA 205 error. I'm running Oracle 8i on a PC with Windows 98.
When I try to start up Oracle,
(Start/Programs/Oracle 8i/Database Administration/Start Database)
it show the messages:
- checking security
- starting instance
- ORA 205 - Can not mount database
What could be the cause of this error?

If u install oracle personal edition in Windows 98 environment then it's ok. otherwise if u install enterprise edition then i am sorry to say that
it is not possible to start database on 98 env.
Use NT environment.

I still get the error:
"ORA 205 Can not mount database"
When I try to start up Oracle.
