I use Oracle 8i on Windows 2000 Server running on an IBM Server for a Hospital Information System. The memory usage of oracle.exe(not peak usage) as shown in the Windows Task Manager is increasing by around 2MB everyday. It presently stands at 170MB having been 40MB at installation time 2 weeks ago. This is obviously abnormal. Please do suggest reasons and remedies.

Thank you.

What happens when you recycle the database ? Does it go back to the normal size (40MB) ?

Else I would suspect memory leak.

Which version of 8i are you using and have you put any available patch ? I would highly recommend any available patch.

Good luck.

it does never go back to the normal level. It only keeps on increasing. If it is 178MB today tommorow or day after it will be 180 and never goes down. Are we to update the patches for Windows2000 or Oracle8i. I don't know of any patches available for Oracle 8i.

Thanks for the reply.
