I apologize in advance for my ignorance. My server crashed early Sat morning. It is a RAID 5 with 6 disks (2 FAILED) and I was able to force 1 disk back on-line and reboot. Now server is up and running but oracle is down. Getting this error at OEM screen:ORA-01033: ORACLE initialization or shutdown in progress (DBD ERROR: OCISessionBegin) Same when I try to log in in SQL. Is the data gone? What do I do next? Don't know much about Oracle. Someone else installed it. I know a little about creating tables, ect. As far as I know there hasn't been any backups. It was on my list to do. I can see the .dbf files and tried to copy everything in that folder in case the disk fails again(REDO03.log failed to copy). I figure I am going to loose this disk soon so if at all possible I would like to recover the data in the tables, and the table configurations if possible. Tried to restart oracle but it doesn't like the OS user-name and password. Any Suggestions?

I don't like what I see and what I don't see.
Are you sure you are logged onto DB Server system directly?

Typically OS User "oracle" owns Oracle software tree.
ORACLE_HOME & ORACLE_SID variables do not exist for posted OS User

Can you validate that your account have access to all your redo logs.

You comment that you couldnt copy REDO03.log, do you know why?

The ORA-333 means that an error occurred while reading the redo log file.

I don't know how I would validate the user account. And the only thing I could think of on the REDO03 is that part of Oracle was trying to run. Here is a screen shot of my users and local security settings.

Try to post the aler log of you database, to get the complete error.

search for alert*.log

It should have the name of your instance.

Shutdown your database and start it on mount mode.

1. shutdown abort;
2. startup mount;
3. alter database clear logfile group 3;

I think that the only solution is restore from a backup and do incomplete recovery, but you don't have a backup. There is a undocumented parameter _allow_resetlogs_corruption, but this should be used only with oracle support.

sorry for the delay, trying to get oracle support.

Result:
SQL> alter database open resetlogs;
alter database open resetlogs
*
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-01194: file 1 needs more recovery to be consistent
ORA-01110: data file 1: 'D:\WWR\ORACLE\ORADATA\WWR\SYSTEM01.DBF'

I hit enter when it asked.
Specify log: {<RET>=suggested | filename | AUTO | CANCEL}

I think you last chance, is to force open the database with _ALLOW_RESETLOGS_CORRUPTION=TRUE in the init.ora. Call oracle, because as I told you is not documented.
