Hello,

We have recently implemented Dataguard and the archive logs that are shipped to the dataguard server are not being deleted. We have the following RMAN parameter in place on the standby: CONFIGURE ARCHIVELOG DELETION POLICY TO APPLIED ON STANDBY

According to Oracle, this will cause the logs to be deleted once there is space pressure. Is that true? Is the space pressure determined by the FRA size setting? Is this the "Best Practice" method to clean-up the archive logs on the standby server? We have over 3000 archive logs on the standby and the number is building....

Oracle support was not able to provide me with any details.

Thanks in advance.

Have you also set the init parameter _log_deletion_policy to ALL ?

Hello,

We did not set that parameter. Is that set on the standby?

Thanks

That should be set on the primary.

Thanks. We are running RAC on the primary. I will look into this and see if we can get it implemented.
