I am looking to upgrade our current 9.2.0.8 database to 10.2.0.3.

I have been reading
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14239/upgrades.htm

What I do not understand is how the standby gets upgraded? Does it effectively do a rolling upgrade of the standby as the primary gets upgraded?

Thank you

-Nate

You do not upgrade the standby database, you recreate it.

So I would blow away the old standby and then recreate a new standby? Say I have a 200gb database about how long would that take?

I knew that answer was coming as soon as I typed that question. I will go and research deleting/creating standby's now.

1) synch standby with primary
2) stop transfer of redo log files.
3) shutdown both DBs
4) install new version of s/w on both systems
5) start standby to apply redo log files using new version s/w
6) run dbca on primary (which does DDL & DML) using new version
7) after upgrade of primary completes, start transfer of redo

I was given these steps by another member. Any opinions?

Michel, your method is for a Windows Server. I am using HPUX. I found the following link which is what I will be following in addition to my other link:

https://metalink.oracle.com/CSP/ui/flash.html#tab=KBHome(page=KBHome&id=()),(page=KBNavigator&id=(bmDocType=HOWTO&bmDocDs rc=KB&bmDocTitle=How%20To%20%3Cb%3EUpgrade%3C/b%3E%20A%20Primary%20%3Cb%3EDatabase%3C/b%3E%20And%20A%20Physical%20%3Cb%3EStandby% 3C/b%3E%20To%20Oracle10gR2%20(10.2)&from=BOOKMARK&bmDocID=407040.1&viewingMode=1143))

I hope that link works...it only works if you have a metalink account.
