What is the code in ANSI SQL to replace a null value? I believe it is NVL but I do not know how to use it.

NVL (expr1, expr2)
where: expr1 is the source value or expression that may contain null
expr2 is the target value for converting null
Here is an example:
select NVL(sal,0),
NVL(hiredate, '24-JUL-01'),
NVL(job, 'No Job yet'),
NVL(ename, ' '),
comm
from emp;
